Apple TV users in the United States can now watch Formula 1 races with Dolby Atmos audio, a feature that debuted with this weekend's United States Grand Prix. The audio upgrade began on Friday, October 23, marking the first time any Formula 1 race has been broadcast in this immersive format.

Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the addition earlier this month. Apple stated that the surround sound is designed to place viewers in the center of race weekend activities. The system captures a wide range of audio elements, including team radio communications, commentary, engine noise, and the sounds of the pit lane.

The company also noted that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision enhances the viewing experience. This pairing aims to provide high-fidelity sound alongside clear, colorful visuals. Apple described the combination as placing fans at the heart of the on-track action.

Fans can still view the remaining sessions of the race weekend. Practice 2 aired on Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying follows that same day at 5 p.m. ET. The main race will air on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.

To coincide with the event, Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The store also hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday for the launch of the iPhone Duo.

Apple updated its Maps application to support the event as well. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin and included a specific map of the Circuit of The Americas. This digital map displays turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks to assist fans in navigating the venue.

The service is available to subscribers for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. Apple TV also streams other popular titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
