Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is available for purchase, but full use of its new features requires additional spending. The device launches with several capabilities that depend on accessories not included in the box. Buyers must purchase extra gear to write on the screen, charge the phone quickly, and view home security feeds on the lock screen.
Apple Pencil support marks the first time an iPhone allows stylus input. Users can write notes and sketch on both the outer and inner displays. Apple stated the design mimics the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook. The feature arrives in the iOS 27.2 update next week. Only the Apple Pencil with a USB-C connector is compatible. It is currently listed at $69, a reduction from its original $79 price tag.
Fast charging performance relies on a specific power adapter. The iPhone Duo reaches 50 percent battery capacity in approximately 20 minutes, but only when paired with a suitable charger. The retail box includes a USB-C cable but no power adapter. Apple sells a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max output for $34, down from $39. An alternative is the Anker 100W USB-C charger, which costs $29 and includes a five-foot cable.
The expanded StandBy mode enables new smart home features when the phone stands upright. Users can access Home Camera and Home Modular views without the device charging. These tools allow owners to check security cameras at a glance. To utilize these functions, HomeKit-compatible cameras are required. Recommended models include the Aqara G100 2K camera at $39 and the eufy 4K camera at $69.
Additional accessories address physical protection and vehicle mounting. Cases on the market include the SPIDERCASE Magnetic Case at $29 and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro at $39. Apple offers its own iPhone Duo Case for $79 and the Folio with Kickstand for $129. For drivers, the ESR MagSafe Car Mount holds the phone magnetically to an air vent. It is priced at $19, reduced from $29. These items, combined with the pencil and charger, create a baseline cost for full utility beyond the phone itself.
