Four people were taken to hospitals for treatment after a drive-by shooting outside a licensed venue in Loganholme, Queensland, on Saturday evening.
Queensland police received calls at 8:15 p.m. reporting that shots had been fired from a moving vehicle. Officers found four individuals with gunshot wounds at the scene. The vehicle was seen leaving the area, and police are currently searching for the offenders.
The shooting occurred outside Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road. The venue was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night, an event scheduled for Saturday. Deputy Commander Chris Stream told the Today show that the scene was confronting. He confirmed that a number of people suffered gunshot wounds.
Logan mayor Jon Raven said the incident sent a shockwave through the local community. Residents in the area reported feeling frightened after the event. Raven attended similar boxing nights in the past and described them as family-friendly environments where many children were present.
Raven stated that the victims, staff, and attendees would be impacted for the rest of their lives. He noted that the night had been organized to help steer children away from violence. The organizer uses boxing to empower and reconnect young people who might be struggling, according to the mayor.
Logan City Titles released a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The group said it was heartbroken about the incident. The organizers described the event as a community showcase for local talent and hard work. They stated that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the wider public.
Police said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. Investigators urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The four injured people remained in hospital, where medical staff were assessing their conditions.
