BYD is set to launch its most expensive electric vehicle in the United Arab Emirates this month, bypassing its home market for the initial release. Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed the global debut location this week, though the company has not specified an exact date. The move signals a push into the high-end executive segment with a model designed to compete directly with established ultra-luxury brands.
The new sedan features a body shape comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Local reports estimate the vehicle length at 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches. BYD is positioning the car against competitors like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. This represents a major shift for a manufacturer best known for affordable options, such as the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China.
Yangwang sits at the top of BYD's brand hierarchy, acting as a showcase for advanced technology. Previous models utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which produces 1,300 horsepower, and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system. The new executive sedan will feature rear-hinged coach doors, a first for the company. It is also reported to be the first model to use BYD's solid-state batteries. Executive vice president Stella Li stated last month that the brand's first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027.
Rumored pricing for the sedan starts in the 2 million yuan range, equating to approximately $300,000. This price point places the car well above Yangwang's current lineup. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The brand's current most expensive mass-produced vehicle is the U8L plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUV, which starts at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
Hu Xiaoqing released several images of the new sedan undergoing testing last month. The vehicle appeared disguised but matched the size and shape of premium executive sedans. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, said the car will feature disruptive technology but provided no specific details. The sedan was displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting support for megawatt flash charging.
BYD has expanded its lineup in recent years to include entry-level EVs, three-row flagship SUVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars. The company operates three sub-brands, Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang, alongside the Dynasty and Ocean families under the main BYD name. The new sedan aims to solidify Yangwang's position in the ultra-luxury segment with its debut in the UAE.
