Ukraine Reports Satellite Speeds Above 400 km/h
Ukrainian authorities announced the restoration of satellite link speeds following a period of disrupted connectivity.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence is now registering speeds above 400 km/h on its satellite connections, marking a significant increase from figures recorded just days earlier. Officials confirmed that the connection remains stable, a critical metric for military operations. This figure represents a substantial jump from the previous levels of 130 to 161 km/h that were observed across several sectors near the front lines.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address on October 24 that restrictions affecting Starlink and Starshield systems had been lifted by that morning. He noted that the equipment was operating at the speeds required for military use. According to Zelenskyy, speeds began to recover overnight and had reached necessary levels by the following morning.
The restoration of bandwidth is viewed as crucial for logistics along the frontline and for protecting against jet-powered Shahed drones. Prior to the resumption of full speeds, defense forces and Ministry of Defence experts had recorded systems operating above 161 km/h. The Ministry later issued an official confirmation regarding the return of stable connectivity.
The period of reduced bandwidth created operational difficulties. Earlier, President Zelenskyy had reported that equipment stopped working at speeds of 130 to 161 km/h in several areas. He stated that this interference hampered logistics and limited the ability to deploy drones effectively against incoming threats.
Questions regarding the cause of the disruption remain. On October 16, US President Donald Trump asserted that the White House had not been involved in limiting Ukraine's use of the system. A separate report from The Telegraph indicated that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had raised the idea of restricting bandwidth with Trump.
Despite the reports of restored functionality, the underlying circumstances that led to the slowdown remain a subject of scrutiny. The specific reasons for the initial reduction in speed have not been detailed beyond the political statements and reports concerning potential bandwidth restrictions.
