LINXS: No Defect in LAX People Mover After Electrical Blasts
New footage captures a large explosion during testing, while the contractor insists the system functioned as designed.

Four electrical explosions struck the Los Angeles International Airport People Mover project in late September. Documents provided to project lenders detail three arc blast incidents on Sept. 23 and a fourth on Sept. 25. An arc blast is the technical definition for a specific type of electrical explosion.
Newly obtained video shows a train moving before a large explosion occurs. Sources provided the footage to ABC7. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) confirmed that an arc flash happened late last month. The agency noted it cannot confirm the video's source because it detected altered content circulating online.
LINXS, the primary contractor for the system, stated there is no defect in the installed electrical system. The company added that passenger vehicles sustained no damage. LINXS argued the system responded as designed during the incidents. Repairs are now complete, and testing has resumed.
LAWA is the public agency overseeing the airport. The People Mover is an automated transit line connecting terminal areas. The project broke ground in 2019. Officials originally targeted a 2023 opening date. The earliest potential public opening is now early next year.
A source who provided the video told ABC7 the footage had not been altered. LAWA did not provide a clear answer when asked if officials believed the video was modified. LINXS remains committed to finishing the project.
